The Situation
The company started out with a philosophy of buying packaged software but, as time passed, the modifications and ‘add-ons’ steadily increased to the point where it had to start developing its own systems in-house. As there were a number of software projects, which required attention, it was decided to form a dedicated development team. As the company wished to make the team as productive and efficient as possible, while achieving high levels of user satisfaction, it felt the need for constructive advice from outside.
The Work Undertaken
The objective of the project was to act as a mentor to the new Systems Development Manager and use our existing knowledge, and experience, to look at the situation, making allowance for future developments, compare it with the current industry best practice, and identify:
- areas where procedures are required and develop them, or cause them to be developed;
- simple suggestions to improve productivity, user satisfaction, or provide other benefits;
- skills which are either missing or in need of development.
